Failure of main engine during maneuvering

Main engine failed to respond during maneuvering

Corrective Action/ Lessons to be learnt:
Ensure all essential points are checked before sailing, especially during 2 hours notice or during trying out time.

Incident:
When ship was about to berth in Amsterdam, the main Engine failed to turn Astern, but it was able to turn ahead. Tugs assistance was sought and the ship was taken to anchorage. On investigation found starting air system, one solenoid valve was loose, may be got loosened due to vibration. The holding washer was changed, valve tightened properly, and tried out found satisfactory.
